Sumatra is an island in Western Indonesia and the islands off Sumatra are an incredible surfing destination with remarkable consistency and quality. A boat trip in the Mentawai archipelago is a dream come true for any surfer.

There are flawless waves for every standard and style of surfing ranging from fast shallow barrelling waves with deep barrels to long cruisey walls with rippable faces.

There are waves in this area year-round, however the most ideal time to surf this area is March to November, the southern hemisphere winter when the Indian Ocean is an active groundswell producing machine.

Siloina 1 & 2 offer two routes on the charters – either the North and South Mentawai islands area or further North to the Banyak, Nias, Telo islands and Aceh coast.

Depending on the season, waves vary in size from 2 to 10 foot with the average wave height being about 4-5 ft. (head ½ high or 8ft faces) they can range anywhere from fun sized walls to awesome stand-up barrels. There’s so many surf options you can pick exactly what you’re after!

The wet season starts in late-October and lasts until late March-April, with the swells dropping to a more comfortable fun size coupled with some of the most uncrowded line-ups. Winds during this time are variable and glassy. Check for the low season specials during this period.

April is the beginning of dry season, which coincides with the start of the swell season. The Southern hemisphere swells start pulsing up the Indian Ocean with peak swell season being June through to September. This period also sees the winds turn to a favourable easterly direction.

Air and water temperatures range between 27-30 degrees C all year round.

These 130ft Charters have 6 fully air-conditioned guest cabins, each convertible between double beds and 2 twin beds. Every cabin includes an en-suite bathroom with hot fresh water showers for your ultimate comfort.

Spacious, comfortable they have plenty of communal areas to chill. On the mid deck there’s indoor and outdoor dining as well as an air conditioned saloon for chilling. On the top deck you’ll find their fully stocked bar as well as 2 lounge areas with big sofa’s, sound system and TV to review the surf of the day.

They cruise at 9-10 knots and have 2 centre console alloy tenders each to get you to and free the line ups with ease. The boat is fully air-conditioned and is equipped with all modern navigational and safety equipment.

Food on-board is simply gourmet created by their chef – luxury with a generous and wide range of healthy and tasty Western and local Indonesian meals and snacks to fuel hours in the water!

The charter also has on-board paddle boards, fishing equipment, spearfishing and snorkelling gear and is free to use.
