Matanivusi is a boutique eco resort located on Fiji’s Southern Coral Coast – a stunning enclave built specifically to accommodate surfers and family members that are looking for secluded accommodation, wellness/yoga, ocean activities and epic waves breaking in crystal clear waters.

If you’re looking for a tropical destination which has that higher standard of accommodation, higher quality of food, friendly Fijian service – all located in harmony amongst the natural beauty of palm trees on a golden sandy beach with world class waves at your fingertips. Read on!

Surfers at Matanivusi are ferried out (10-15mins) to any of their several surf breaks accessed by their sturdy, twin-engine boats. They also have access to the consistent left hander of Frigates Passage.  A min of 3 guests for the Frigates trip is required as this is an all day excursion with lunch provided on the boat. The non-surfers are always welcome to go out with the surfers and snorkel.

There is surf all year around in Fiji, but there are two different surf seasons. The winter season is from May to October when the low pressure systems produce consistent ground swells which can get up to 8-10’ft. During this time the SE trade winds are predominant and they blow offshore at Pipe and Frigates for up to a week at a time. There is usually a few days of calm winds between the weather patterns so they can get to surf the other local breaks if the swell is small enough.

The summer season from November to April is generally associated with shorter duration swells, however the winds are generally light and variable during this time resulting in often glassy fun sized conditions. This is the time when the local right hand reef breaks really begin to fire up.

Resort Lefts is a “go to” spot for intermediate and beginners while Pipes is a very hollow left reef surfable from three to eight feet. Serua Right is a long wave with an easy takeoff and hollow inside section. On big days Serua is one of the longest waves in Fiji. Frigates is a left hander in the same class as Cloudbreak. Breaking top-to-bottom on all tides.

The resort was built in harmony with the natural terrain with an above-ground boardwalk to take you from the pool, restaurant/bar to your bure only metres from the ocean.

With 6 duplex ocean front bures (12 rooms) – a small creek behind them and a screen of coconut palms and jungle flowers adds additional privacy. The bures are such that with friends or family you can open the adjoining doors or they can be locked off.
Deluxe rooms are tastefully furnished and have been created for the tropical getaway with maximum use of glass & louvres, fan cooled, fully screened and mosquito nets. Spacious enough to incorporate a king size bed or two king singles, an ensuite with hot and cold water, and a private deck giving inspiring views of the beach and rainforest.

The resort restaurant offers fresh, healthy meals to resupply energy after a day in the surf and sun. They place a high priority on the quality of food and service. There is a fully stocked cocktail bar in the restaurant which overlooks the fresh water swimming pool and out to the lagoon and surf breaks.

Although they specialize in surfing, they encourage non surfers as well.

The resort offers daily yoga classes catering to all levels and private sessions are also available upon request. Their beautiful yoga studio is built on an elevated wooden deck, overlooking the lush and sacred rainforest. Enjoy the calming sounds of the bush and feel the gentle wind grazing against your skin while flowing through your asanas. Yoga mats, blocks and straps are available to use at no extra cost.

Treat yourself after a day in the ocean to one of their relaxing massages – pamper yourself and relax those aching muscles.

Snorkelling in front of the resort reveals an incredible display of tropical fish and corals that will entertain non-surfers for weeks. Also available is scuba diving for the PADI certified divers, or if you would like to learn to dive, they can arrange that.
The resort also has a range of kayaks and SUP’s for use to explore the rivers, creeks or lagoon in front. Immerse yourself in the local Fijian culture with village visits, plantation walks, basket weaving or Volley ball… why not give the staff a challenge – they love this game!

The resort can assist with other activities such as; waterfalls & village visits, Zip Lining through rainforest canopy’s, white water rafting, visits to Kula Wildlife Park to see & hold a green iguanas, snakes, native wildlife and feed the turtles.

Marine activities range from; shark dive’s (the experience of a lifetime and well recommended), Scuba diving- explore the underwater world with experienced Padi divers. (Lessons can also be arranged in the pool if you wish to learn). Day sail to a nearby island for a lunch, drinks and snorkelling or take a jet-boat up the Sigatoka River to visit authentic Fijian villages. There’s also an 18 hole golf course nearby.
