Indo Satu is only a few years old and she offers 12 night, 11 day charters run by an experienced local crew working alongside a Western surf guide. You can choose a trip to the wave dense Mentawai or Telo Islands. Trips to either of these locations and can be decided upon the day of departure depending upon surf conditions and guests’ abilities and preferences.

‘North Trips’ charters are becoming increasingly popular. On these trips guests will get to visit a huge variety of waves by cruising through the Telo Islands, visiting Bawa, Asu, Treasure Island and Bay of Plenty on the Banyak Islands (available from May – Aug 2020).

You have seen the flawless waves in mags and vid’s … The Mentawai islands, Telo islands and those in between attract swell all year round with more perfect peeling left and right-handers in one region than anywhere on earth.

Situated roughly 100 km off the west coast of Sumatra on the equator, these pristine islands are amongst the most beautiful in the world with four large islands making up the Mentawai archipelago, surrounded by many smaller ones. The charter can either headNorth to the Telo region or the Mentawai region on your preference and based on surf conditions that are firing. The generic route is out to the H.T’s area then further South down to Thunders then back up passing Macaronis towards the Playgrounds area. Crystal clear water, golden beaches and palm trees line the shores with classic reefs, point breaks and beach breaks, which offer waves for ALL standards of surfing ability.

Depending on the season, waves vary in size from 2 to 12 foot with the average wave height being about 4-5 ft. (head ½ high or 8ft faces) they can range anywhere from fun sized walls to awesome stand-up barrels.

The wet season starts in mid-October and lasts until late March-April, with the swells dropping to a more comfortable fun size coupled with some of the most uncrowded line-ups. Winds during this time are variable and glassy. Check for the low season specials during this period.

April is the beginning of dry season, which coincides with the start of the swell season. The Southern hemisphere swells start pulsing up the Indian Ocean with peak swell season being June through to September. This period also sees the winds turn to a favourable easterly direction.

Air and water temperatures range between 27-30°C all year round.

Out on the foredeck is a shaded chill-out and eating area (with a bluetooth enabled sound system). The top deck is another space for hanging and is fitted with a sunshade when the boat is parked up at the waves. It is also the go to spot for sunset beers. The saloon area is for movie watching, evening relaxation and bad weather refuge. It’s where you’ll find the well-stocked beer and drink fridge and breakfast bar, where coffee/tea and snacks are on the ready day and night.

The interior of the boat is totally air-conditioned throughout. The below deck guest accommodation area is comprised of a dorm setup with 8 bunks along with a double VIP cabin.

“Si Lion”, is their 24 ft aluminium tender powered by a 200hp Suzuki outboard and accompanies Indo Satu on all charters. Si Lion is used for chasing waves up and down the islands allowing guests to surf a wider variety of waves over the course of the trip.

Indo Satu cruises along at 8-9 knots and has 24/7 electricity. The full array of safety gear and navigational equipment in accordance with Indonesian Survey laws is on board (including satellite phone, HF and VHF radio, radar, GPS, sounder, 18-person life raft, flares, life jackets and fire extinguishers). The crew are all highly experienced and have completed first aid and fire training.

On board you will find fishing gear, from trolling rods, spinning rods, and hand lines to catch those big fish for sport and fun. The tender will also run you to deserted islands to explore or to the bigger ones to experience traditional villages.
