The Indonesian name “Raja Ombak” translates to “King Wave” which perfectly describes our mission: to be in the right spot at the right time to surf the best waves. Raja Ombak offers two routes on the charters: either the North and South Mentawai islands area or further North to the Northern Mentawais (Playgrounds area) Banyak, Nias, and Telo islands. With six spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, it is perfect for couples, families and anyone who values their own space on board.

Includes: Padang airport to harbour transfers, 12 nights air-con accommodation, free Starlink wi-fi, use of fishing and snorkelling equipment, bottled water, drinks, daily meals, snacks, 24 beers, Western surf guide and surf transfers.

 

Sumatra is an island in Western Indonesia and the islands off Sumatra are an incredible surfing destination with remarkable consistency and quality. A boat trip in the Mentawai archipelago is a dream come true for any surfer.

There are flawless waves for every standard and style of surfing ranging from fast shallow barrelling waves with deep barrels to long cruisey walls with rippable faces.

There are waves in this area year-round, however the most ideal time to surf this area is April to October, the southern hemisphere winter when the Indian Ocean is an active groundswell producing machine. The wet season starts in late-October and lasts until late March-April, with the swells dropping to a more comfortable fun size coupled with some of the most uncrowded line-ups. Winds during this time are variable and glassy. Check for the low season specials during this period.
Depending on the season, waves vary in size from 2 to 10 foot with the average wave height being about 4-5 ft. (head ½ high or 8ft faces) they can range anywhere from fun sized walls to awesome stand-up barrels.

Your group will be able to communicate to the expert western surf guide about what type of waves you would like to surf.

Air and water temperatures range between 27-30 degrees C all year round.

There is always a team of photographers and videographers on board to capture the trip and barrels you catch (additional cost).

The charters search and explore the Mentawai area and can venture further North to the Telo, Nias, Hinako and Banyak islands on request at an extra charge.

April is the beginning of dry season, which coincides with the start of the swell season. The Southern hemisphere swells start pulsing up the Indian Ocean with peak swell season being June through to September. This period also sees the winds turn to a favourable easterly direction.

Raja Ombak is an 83ft custom-built vessel designed for surfing and diving in Indonesia’s stunning waters. It was built in 2019 in Sulawesi, cruising at 8 -10 knots and have speedboat tenders to get you to and from the line ups with ease. The boat is fully air-conditioned and is equipped with all modern navigational and safety equipment.

She’s a sightly different charter set up with 6 air conditioned cabins with ensuites. This four-storey boat boasts three beautiful decks: the top deck has a large shaded lounge area with nice cushioned seats and bean bags, and another area for enjoying the sun; on the bridge deck there are four double cabins with en-suite bathrooms; and on the main deck you’ll find the dining area with a huge table, TV and sound system; the three shared cabins below deck all have en-suite bathrooms and air-conditioning.

Feel a sense of freedom and adventure. Cruise around the scenic islands of Indonesia in this superb pirate ship, and refuel between barrels with the varied and plentiful cuisine served in the dining area. Enjoy delicious buffet style Indonesian and western style meals – a variety of foods for all tastes and appetites. Snacks are served all day to ensure guests are well fuelled.

Food on-board is simply gourmet! Their chef specialises in healthy and tasty Western, Italian, Mexican and local Indonesian (generous sized!) meals and snacks to fuel hours in the water!

Fishing, spearfishing, snorkelling are all available aboard. The tenders can also run you to deserted islands to explore or to the bigger ones to experience traditional villages.
