The Mentawai Islands attracts swell all year round with more perfect peeling left and right-handers in one region than anywhere on earth. More than 70% of the waves in the Mentawais are accessible within an hour or so by speedboat from the resort.

Awera Resort is strategically located within easy access to a huge range of waves. In the bay at their beach there are three breaks, (Awera Left, Awera Right, the long Ombuk Tidur Right and a beginner wave also) but they also have a fleet of 3 boats to take guests to over ten additional nearby spots.

Also in their backyard only 10 minutes away are five well known consistent spots including Telescopes, Icelands, Suicides, Seven Palms and Scarecrows.
They can also access the “Playgrounds” area further North and also H.T’s area further South (for an additional charge).With this array of waves on hand, there’s always something to suit every style of surfing and every level— a true surfer’s Paradise.

They also have a professional surf photography package available along with a full quiver (30) of boards to rent as well. Amazingly, they also have a surf school too! With access to some very user friendly safer surf breaks learning to surf here is a blessing!

Designed for mainly for not only intermediate/advanced surfers, but also beginners as well, this includes all boat trips to the surf, (usually 3x per day) and always try to find the best spot regarding the forecast and surfing level of the groups. They cap their surfer numbers at 14.

Situated roughly 100 km off the west coast of Sumatra on the equator, these pristine islands are amongst the most beautiful in the world with four large islands making up the Mentawai archipelago, surrounded by many smaller ones.

Crystal clear water, golden beaches and palm trees line the shores with classic reefs, point breaks and beach breaks, which offer waves for ALL standards of surfing ability.

Depending on the season, waves vary in size from 2 to 12 foot with the average wave height being about 4-5 ft. (head ½ high or 8ft faces) they can range anywhere from fun sized walls to awesome stand-up barrels.

The wet season starts late-October and lasts until late March-April, with the swells dropping to a more comfortable fun size coupled with some of the most uncrowded line-ups. Winds during this time are variable and glassy. Check for the low season specials during this period.

April is the beginning of dry season, which coincides with the start of the swell season. The Southern hemisphere swells start pulsing up the Indian Ocean with peak swell season being June through to September. This period also sees the winds turn to a favourable easterly direction.

Air and water temperatures range between 27-30 degrees C all year round.

Awera Resort & Spa is located on Pototoga island, in the north Sipora Island area approximately 150 kilometres off the coast of mainland Sumatra, Indonesia. They have either private bungalows or family bungalows. Each contains a bathroom with shower, fully air conditioned, outside shower and private rear courtyard, front terrace with ocean views and easy access to a private pristine white sand beach.

Private bungalows are absolute beachfront with ocean views and can be either set with king or Twin beds (extra beds avail).

The Family bungalows are also absolute beachfront with ocean views and are 2 bedrooms with a living room and can sleep 4-6 people, so great for families or groups.

Meals are exquisitely presented and generous- and range from seafood, Italian, Chinese and Indonesian cuisine. A celebration of world-class restaurant in their exclusive island resort Indonesian and international gastronomy is elevated and transformed into a multi-sensorial experience in this avant-garde COCCÜ restaurant. In this kitchen, traditional ingredients and recipes are re-interpreted to create unique sensations in every dish.

Awera Resort also offers a smorgasbord of aquatic activities in crystal blue water right at your front door from surfing to diving to fishing. There is a variety of different experiences you can organize whilst you are at the resort. From kayak adventures, Spa sessions in their exclusive retreat and paddle boarding in the mangroves. Surfing lessons can also be organized once you are in the resort.

Take a walk through the Mentawai jungle to be at one with nature. The route follows the course of a river and ends with a refreshing swim after a hike through the jungle.

The island of Awera is surrounded by crystal clear waters teeming with marine life. Paddle a kayak or SUP board and discover some of the most magical places in the Mentawai islands – or immerse yourself underwater, around 29ºC which makes snorkelling such a fantastic experience.
