Damai Bungalows
Includes: return flights ex Jakarta to Banda Lampung, return airport to Krui transfers, 7 nights fan cooled bungalow accommodation and all your meals.
Situated on the Southern coast of mainland Sumatra is the small town of Krui, and the coastline North and South is littered with surf breaks to suit ALL levels of surfer.
Damai Bungalows sits directly in front of Ujung Bocor, the area’s longest, most consistent wave. It regularly turns on rides in excess of 200 meters.
The top of the point provides barrel sections then rolls through to a long carveable wall for as long as you want to ride it. Definitely the longest, funnest wave in the area.
Take advantage of their 16 yrs experience surfing south Sumatra, they can organise cars or bikes to get you amongst the other waves in the area and tell you when to hit them.
We have hosted shortboarders, longboarders and bodyboarders, they’ve all been able to get amongst it and go home stoked.
There are over a dozen quality waves (beach breaks, reefs and point breaks) in this beautiful area, that is often compared to how Bali was 30 years ago.
The main surf season runs from April-November. The “Roaring Forties” send plenty of 6+ft (2-4m) swells through April-November. The SSW swell direction is ideal for their SW facing area. The off-season of mid-November to late March is rarely flat because of the Southern Ocean’s ability to produce constant swells in the 2-6ft range. Cross-shore winds are the rule as Lampung means “place of the southerly winds”. The SE trade-season starts in May with mild winds getting stronger towards the end of the season in October. NW winds dominate the rest of the year. If you don’t mind the heavens opening up on you on occasions and enjoy the thrill of finding your own secluded spot the Off-season is certainly worthwhile plus the discounted rates on offer.
Many other surfed but still unnamed South Sumatra breaks are easily accessible from the coast road as it winds its way North West / South East and can be found with the help of a local Surf Guide. There is still a huge potential to discover new breaks along this section of the South Sumatra coastline, access to the coast from the main road is often only 500m and there are literally hundreds of access points used by the many local fishermen in the area. As is often the case surfers tend to congregate at the known breaks around Krui and Tanjung Setia leaving the rest of the South Sumatra coast a mecca for the more adventurous. Exploring this area with a trusted surf companion or local guide can be a very inexpensive and rewarding experience.
Damai Bungalows accommodates a maximum of 12 guests in 6 nicely appointed twin share fan cooled rooms, each with their own tropical style bathrooms. A large pavillion with viewing deck sits just a stones throw from the beach, offering spectacular views over the break of Ujung Bocor & across to Gunung Pugung & the mountain ranges that span the length of Sumatra.
Ayu’s cuisine is delicious & varied. From Indonesian dishes to western favourites we know a full stomach is essential for maximum surf time. Jason ensures the bar is always stocked full with cold beers, soft drinks & fresh made juices.
They have a newly built 2 storey open air pavilion that sits a stones throw from the beach so you can check the waves or grab a beer and enjoy those famous Indonesian sunsets. On the ground floor is the kitchen, river stone bar and jati dining tables whilst upstairs provides a chilled out elevated view of the waves and surrounding mountains.
To either explore the coastline taking in the local sights or checking out waves- the resort can arrange motorbikes and cars/driver no problem.
One of the resort fav’s is their chemical free outdoor swimming pool that overlooks the waves, a sensational place to hang out with a cold beer.
They also offer Free WiFi in the common area with unlimited use, a new table tennis & billiard table and Satellite TV for those who can’t miss their sports, news etc.
The bar is stocked with all soft drinks & of course beers. Fresh juices can also be made. Out of respect to local laws they don’t sell spirits.
