Aganoa Beach Retreat

Aganoa Beach Retreat

Includes: airfares (ex Auckland), airport to resort vehicle and ferry transfers, 6 nights twin share beachfront fale accommodation, daily meals, surf guide and transfers to local breaks.

There is still a place where time forgot. Where the crowds haven’t yet reached, where the guidebooks haven’t ruined, where local children splash and play in a pristine lagoon lapping at golden sands just inside of an empty, funnelling A frame.

On the lesser-known island of Savaii, a short ferry ride from Upolu, a road leads to a lost corner of the earth called Aganoa Beach, there lies a tropical paradise.

A consistent, world-class A-frame reef break peels into a channel just 50 yards in front of a restaurant perched at the sea. A gentle, idyllic lagoon lined with a picture-perfect beach hugs the manicured grounds in seemingly endless and fragrant bloom.

The ultra-consistent A frame out front serves up consistent mind blowing rights and lefts for most skill levels and there are over 10 other different waves within a short drive of the lodge.

While primarily catering for surfers (only 8 at a time) you’re guaranteed uncrowded waves at Aganoa. The incredible part about most breaks on Savai’i (including the main break out front) is how accessible they are. While most breaks on neighboring Upolu require a boat ride to an outer reef, nearly all of Savai’i’s waves are a short paddle from the beach. Serving up consistent rights and/or lefts for any skill level 2-10ft, surfing is even allowed at Aganoa on Sundays (wink-wink).

There are over 10 different waves within an hour’s run of the lodge; the majority are within 30 minutes. The surf there is consistent, with lefts and rights that work in all tides. Best of all, the variety of surf offers many options for all levels of surfers and equipment.

The winter season sees very consistent south swells with east trade winds, Summer still sees consistent south swells and north swells, and the trade winds switch to a very light northerly direction. These trades all year round generally come up mid/late morning and back off late afternoon.

In general surf in Samoa is recommended for the intermediate or better surfer; having made that statement, there are often times that people on any ability can paddle out and have fun.

Aganoa Beach Retreat

Set on the beach are eight stand alone, open-air fales (bungalows) each surrounded by its own “privacy screen” intended to give guests their own perfect carved out piece of paradise. Each is constructed of reclaimed timber and lava rocks collected on-site, and feature a king sized, four post mosquito-netted bed, en-suite bathroom with open-sky shower, and private porch decks for relaxing or watching the surf (literally steps from the beach). Mosquito nets and en-suite bathrooms in all rooms, King or Queen Sized beds (depending on group configurations) 2x daily housekeeping.

Aganoa Lodge Samoa offers a delicious and authentic set-menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the oceanfront restaurant. Stars are fresh fish caught daily right offshore and organic fruits and veggies grown locally. The bar of course is stocked with ice-cold beverages, local beers, New Zealand wines, spirits and bottled water.

Savaii itself — is also the perfect place for the family offering an array of activities. Aganoa offer bikes, sea kayaks and SUP’s for guests wanting to roam the lagoon and explore the coast. Other water activities include fishing trips and snorkelling. Snorkel and dive gear is available for guests to explore the colourful and lively coral reefs right off the shores in the crystal clear waters.

Savaii hosts some amazing scenic wonders from (the largest in the Sth Pacific) blowholes, waterfalls, rainforest walks and swimming with turtles.

All guests are welcomed to Aganoa with an ancient, traditional Samoan feast/celebration called a fiafia, in which guests get to taste an array of every Samoan delicacy from palusami to underground oven-baked pig.

Couple all the above with Samoa’s beautiful Polynesian culture and people — and you may never want to return home…With empty waves just outside your fale, in this private piece of Eden surrounding your companion or family, it’s a perfect location.
