Kingfisher Resort is located on the southern tip of Sipora island, approximately 150 kilometres off the coast of mainland Sumatra, Indonesia. It has a dream location on a picture perfect palm fringed beach with Lances Left being directly in front of the resort! This long, magnificent left-hander is the epitome of the classic Indo wave with its sister- Lances Left (H.T’s) just along the coast.

Located directly in front of the resort is Lances Left. A very long, superbly shaped wave that is renowned for being one of the most consistent and user-friendly breaks in the Mentawai islands. Several take off zones mean this place rarely feels crowded, and with a relatively easy entry during take off it’s little wonder Lances is such a regular crowd pleaser. At three feet expect long, peeling, lined up walls perfect for pushing the limits on your turns, but also be on the lookout for two distinct barrel sections depending on swell direction. At six feet and above be prepared for corduroy lines stacked to the horizon. The wave transforms into a steep, deepwater takeoff with big open faces down the line. Also a great place for intermediate surfers to push themselves into bigger waves. Located less than 15mins away by boat is H.T’s (Lances Right). Arguably the best wave in the Mentawai islands, she is a fast, perfect, barreling right-hander, and is a dream wave for natural footers.

The resort is located in an extremely wave rich region with 10 different waves within 20 minutes via boat. With such an extensive selection to choose from; fun beach breaks, long lefts and rights, barrel perfection and heavy slabs, whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced surfer all levels and appetites are catered for.
Depending on the season, waves vary in size from 2 to 10 foot with the average wave height being about 4-5 ft. (head ½ high or 8ft faces) they can range anywhere from fun sized walls to awesome stand-up barrels.

The wet season starts in mid-October and lasts until late March-April, with the swells dropping to a more comfortable fun size coupled with some of the most uncrowded line-ups.  Winds during this time are variable and glassy. Check for the low season specials during this period.

April is the beginning of dry season, which coincides with the start of the swell season. The Southern hemisphere swells start pulsing up the Indian Ocean with peak swell season being June through to September. This period also sees the winds turn to a favourable easterly direction.

Air and water temperatures range between 27-30 degrees C all year round.

The resort has three Mentawai-style ocean view bungalows which are located just back off the beach underneath the coconut palms directly in front of Lance’s Left. All bungalows have both fans and air conditioning, a mini fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. The beds are also provided with mosquito nets and the bungalows are very spacious with a fully furnished large living area and private tiled en-suite. Outside, the large balcony area offers comfortable chairs and hammocks to enjoy the ocean views towards the surf and perfect to relax in after a long day in the water watching the sunsets with cold Bintang in hand.

The Resort is designed to accommodate a maximum of 10 guests. They believe in this policy, as it allows them to take care in guaranteeing each guest a luxurious and comfortable stay.  The private experience also ensures that the surf never gets too crowded.

Meals are prepared using fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood and meats, cooked in a variety of styles including; Western, Indonesian, Chinese as well as barbeques on the beach. The resort considers great food and lots of it an integral part of an enjoyable experience, so meals are served buffet style to ensure even the most ravenous appetites will be satisfied!

Fishing and snorkelling are catered for as well as a wide and varying range of activities on land. The tropical waters in the area offer brillant conditions for fishing. Most of the surf breaks around the island are accessed via boat, so in between surf sessions youre able to drop a line and catch something for dinner. In the evenings especially, they trawl on the way home hoping to catch Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda, Tuna, Wahoo an G.T’s. (fishing equipment incl)
The island is home to various wild jungle tracks. Explore the lush Mentawai greenery or take a bike ride and go discover your own private beach. A jungle trek will take you through the local villages, the closest one being about 5km from the resort. There you can immerse yourself in a completely unique culture, or test your skills in the volley ball court – the local kids are always keen for a game.

YOGA AND THAI MASSAGE- The best way to start your morning is with a yoga session to get your body ready for a day in the surf. And when you get tired from surfing perfect waves, you can enjoy a Thai massage to relax those muscles. They have a professionally qualified yoga instructor and masseuse at Kingfisher to provide lessons and classes.
If all this sounds like too much activity, feel free to relax in a shaded hammock or catch the breeze in their open-planned restaurant, where drinks and food are available.
