Windsurfing in Fiji
Fiji is a very popular wind and kitesurf destination because of the short flight from New Zealand, good winter sailing conditions and the variety of holiday options. There is a big range of resorts and holiday areas in Fiji with only a few offering good sailing areas.
Fiji gets the best of the tradewinds from the months May to October. You can wind and kite in a number of spots in Fiji but the most popular has been the island, Nananu-I-ra, 2 hours north of Nadi. Nananu-I-ra has first came to prominence with Warren Francis promoting full instructional trips to a resort on the island. In past 10 years or so the island has become popular with NZ and Aussie groups, taking their own gear and using the various well priced accommodation options on the island. The island has windy and sheltered beach areas plus good snorkelling and fishing. Gear hire and instruction is available at Nananu-I-ra but in the other resort area you need to take your own.
It is also is possible to sail or kite from a few of the island resorts off Nadi. Plantation Resort and Malolo islands have become popular with kiters with a couple using the sand bars in the lagoon areas. Other areas are the resorts down on the Coral Coast (South coast). Gear hire and instruction is available at Nananu-I-ra but in the other resort area you need to take your own.
